Being active comes naturally to Bria Tavakoli. Yoga, on the other hand, didn’t always come naturally, at least not at first. In fact, she tried Yoga many times before finding a style that worked for her.
A former athlete, years of practice in sports like soccer, track, cross-country, volleyball, and cheerleading created a craving for movement in both her body and mind. However, a stressful period in her life made her realize that she needed more than a post-workout high. She needed serious stress relief and to find a way to cultivate a deeper peace and a calmer state of mind. Yoga was the answer.
She recalls one class in particular, “My stressed and exhausted body, mind, and spirit were all enlivened afterwards—buzzing with something I hadn’t felt in years—harmony. That night I slept so deeply, and so much stress seemed to have drained out of me from a simple hour’s worth of work. It was like being let in on some big secret. From that moment on, I was hooked.”
Soon thereafter, she found her Yoga teacher, Charles Jojo Tyler, who has pioneered a vigorous and dynamic style of Vinyasa Yoga called Yoga4Soul. Linking breath to flowing movements, it’s an all-in-one practice. Students build cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, strength, and relieve stress while exploring the soulful side of themselves. Bria completed Tyler’s teacher training program, and now teaches in an athletic, yet accessible style.
Wanting to broaden her fitness credentials and knowledge, she earned her AFAA certification, which allows her to work in personal training, as well as teach general fitness formats such as Body Sculpt, Core Training, and Boot Camp.
Bria aims to make every session fun and challenging to all levels, incorporating music, sometimes a touch of humor, and perhaps a bit of philosophy as well. She feels that seeing students grow, learn, and make positive changes in their lives is an honor and a blessing, as is being able to live and work in New York City, which so many talented yogis and fitness professionals call home.
Bria is available to teach group classes, small group sessions, and private sessions. Contact Bria today for more info.
